6-day Lalibela Danakil Depression tour Ethiopia

Day 1: Arrival in Lalibela Upon your arrival at Lalibela Airport, you will be greeted by our guide who will transfer you to your hotel. After settling in, you will have the opportunity to explore the magnificent rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These churches, carved out of solid rock, are a testament to the architectural and engineering skills of the ancient Ethiopian civilization.
Day 2: Lalibela – Mekelle After breakfast, we will drive to Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region. En route, we will pass through stunning landscapes, including the dramatic Ethiopian highlands. Upon arrival in Mekelle, we will visit the impressive Emperor Yohannes IV Museum, which showcases artifacts and exhibits related to the history of the region.
Day 3: Mekelle – Hamed Ela Today, we will embark on a journey to the Danakil Depression, one of the hottest places on Earth. We will drive to Hamed Ela, a small village located in the heart of the depression. Along the way, we will pass through the stunning landscapes of the Afar region, characterized by vast salt flats, volcanic formations, and colorful mineral deposits.
Day 4: Hamed Ela – Dallol – Lake Assale In the morning, we will visit the otherworldly landscape of Dallol, known for its colorful hot springs, sulfur deposits, and salt formations. After exploring Dallol, we will continue our journey to Lake Assale, a salt lake where local Afar people extract salt in a traditional way. Here, you will have the opportunity to witness the salt mining process and interact with the Afar community.
Day 5: Lake Assale – Erta Ale Today, we will drive to Erta Ale, an active volcano located in the Danakil Depression. We will hike to the summit of the volcano, where you can witness the mesmerizing sight of the lava lake glowing in the darkness. Camping near the volcano, you will have a unique opportunity to experience the raw power of nature up close.
Day 6: Erta Ale – Mekelle After breakfast, we will descend from Erta Ale and drive back to Mekelle. Along the way, we will stop at the small town of Abala, where you can visit the local market and interact with the friendly Afar people. In the evening, we will arrive in Mekelle, where you will have some free time to relax before departing the next day.
